Minutes: April 20, 2022 Special Board Meeting

Board of Appeal & Equalization of the Township of Nessel

Presented for approval at the May 10, 2022 Board Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 9:30 am by Chair Michelle Meis, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.  Supervisor’s present includes Stan Iskierka and Betsy Rising.  Not present was Branden Mell and John Paitl.  Also present were Treasurer Mary Dillner and Clerk Mary Winter.

Three people, who represented the Chisago County Assessor’s office, were present.

Forty-two residents were at the meeting representing twenty-nine parcels to see if their assessments could be lowered.

The reason for the meeting is to give residents, who felt aggrieved by their 2023 Tax Assessment, a chance to show cause of having such assessment corrected.

Residents came in front of the board to present their case to have their evaluation lowered based on the order the resident signed-in at the meeting.

Once all residents presented their case to lower their assessment evaluation, the county presented recommendations on each parcel one at a time.  After each recommendation by parcel, the board voted on the recommendations from the county.  All parcels were recommended for a “no change” to the evaluation by the county.  Nessel Township board voted and approved no change to all evaluations.

The county then presented fourteen parcels that the residents had contact them to lower their evaluation.  The county visited each of the 14 parcels and recommended to the board to approve a change from the original value to the recommended value on each parcel.   After each recommendation the Nessel Township board voted and approved recommended evaluation changes.

Motion to adjourn meeting by Betsy Rising, seconded by Stan Iskierka at 1:27 pm.  Approved.
